University of Bristol Royal Fort

client: University of Bristol

Sector: Education

The Royal Fort is a Grade-2 listed building built for Thomas Tyndall in the 18th Century. This historic landmark building now houses the University of Bristol’s Faculty of Science offices amongst other departments.

Optimum Combined Services have been employed directly by the University of Bristol for over 7-years, working across many projects and returning to deliver a range of turn-key solutions.

Royal Fort House presents the best example of this, as what began as a relatively straight forward external redecoration contract, quickly developed into a greater and more involved project.

The buildings external render was found to be inadequate and as the render was removed, the window lintel’s and brickwork substrate were also found to be defective, resulting in substantial remedial works to the walls, lintel’s and timber repairs to the windows.

Finally, after 2-years, the Optimum team were able to add the paint finish we were first contracted to deliver and finally bring this building back to life and more importantly help preserve this historic house.

All works were carried out to specification as agreed with architects Kendall Kingscott and University of Bristol Estates Department.
